Sondrestrom Lidar Operation Log

Operator(s) : E.Gudmundsson, J.Geddes
Purpose : Routine Data Collection & intro for Joe.
Date(s) : 980703 - 980703
File(s) : L9807030 - L9807032
Comments : We had a mishap with the manual tuning of the half wave plates. In an attempt
to
reduce background counts, we rotated the receiver channel back 2.5 degrees.
However, when that action failed to reduce the background we attempted to
restore
the position of the half wave plate. When we tried this, the background counts
dropped only halfway to their previous level. This may signal a problem with the
wave plate rotators, but we have no definitive explanation at this time for the
observation.

We plan to repeat this experiment.
